The Associated Press confirmed as of Wednesday morning that the fires have destroyed over 1,000 structures and killed at least two people. L.A. City Council member Traci Park, 49, appeared on the Today show on Jan. 8 and shared additional details about the ongoing situation in the city.

"I really want to commend neighbors in the area for their swift response and compliance with local orders," she continued in her statement. "This was a fire that grew and moved very, very quickly with the wind conditions as well as all of the dry conditions,"

The ongoing windstorms that are battering Southern California have exacerbated the wildfire threats across the region, with windspeeds expected to reach speeds of 50-80 mph on Wednesday night, per the National Weather Service.
