The body of a man matching the description of a retired New Jersey teacher was found two days after his family reported him missing, authorities said.

Alan Levin, 84, was reported missing on Saturday, Dec. 7, according to the Galloway Township Police Department. A body matching his description was found along the bank of Nacote Creek, a waterway that leads to the Mullica River about 10 miles north of Atlantic City, on Monday, Dec. 9, police said.

As of Tuesday, Dec. 10, police have not confirmed the man's identity. However, Levin's son, Kevin M. Levin, wrote on Facebook that his family received the "worst news possible" on Dec. 9.

A representative with the Galloway Township Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
