Billy Idol is a father of three and grandfather of four
Famed rock star Billy Idol has been thrilling audiences for over four decades, but he still makes time for his children and grandchildren.
Idol, born William Michael Albert Broad, has three children: sons Brant Broad and Willem Wolfe Broad and daughter Bonnie Blue Broad. He also has four grandchildren through Brant and Bonnie.
In May 2024, the "White Wedding" singer spoke to PEOPLE about his love of music and family, saying, "It is really lovely. It's nice, I've got the best of both worlds. It's all worked out in an incredible way that I could never imagine."
Idol regularly posts about his children and grandchildren on social media, proudly sharing adorable moments with them, like gathering his whole family to celebrate his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and his toddler grandkids dancing and grooving to his music backstage.
Despite the rigorous schedule of a touring musician, Idol has managed to merge his two seemingly opposite worlds as a rock legend and grandpa. He told PEOPLE of being a grandfather, "That's lovely about being a grandad, you're not disciplining them. You're more giving them advice if they ask you stuff like that. So the pressure isn't the same as being a parent where you're having to discipline ... it's quite different."
Here's everything to know about Billy Idol's children, Brant, Willem and Bonnie.
Brant Broad
Idol is a father to son Brant Broad.
Brant has two children with his wife Teresa. He has a daughter named Mackenzie, who was born in June 2020, and a son named Mason, who was born in July 2022. According to Idol, Mason shares a birthday with Idol's father.
"Happy Birthday Mason my grandson who is 2yrs old today born on the same day as his great grandfather W A Broad July 6th so I can always remember his birthday… here he is with his dad my son Brant @tnorthbroad87," Idol wrote on Instagram celebrating his grandson's second birthday in 2024.
Brant and his family joined the rest of the Broad brood at Idol's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in January 2023. Later that year, Idol shared photos from a backstage visit from Brant and Mackenzie during his show at Brooklyn, N.Y.'s Kings Theatre.
"Had a lovely visit ftom [sic] my granddaughter McKenzie backstage at the kings theatre 🎭 yesterday… also with my son @brant_northridge_broad … also McKenzie started school recently," he wrote alongside a few photos from the night.
Willem Wolfe Broad
Idol welcomed son Willem Wolfe Broad in the 1980s with former Hot Gossip member Perri Lister.
As a child, Willem accompanied his father at various public events, including a local premiere of The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997 and the circus in 1999.
Now an adult, Willem has followed in his dad's footsteps, pursuing a career in entertainment. According to his website, he's a "musician, artist, and DJ creating sonic and visual worlds in Los Angeles, California." He names his musical influences as The Velvet Underground, Patience and Prudence, DJ Soul Clap and Apex Twin.
During an interview with Up Magazine, he spoke about how he was influenced musically by his mom and dad, "Some of the favorite music I had growing up was techno-ambient house music, these things my mother would play around the house in the '90s. My dad gave me these tapes, and my first two cassette tapes were The Offspring, Smash and Kraftwerk. Years later, I really found it so interesting how that summed me up."
In 2010, Idol told the New York Daily News he was "proud" of Willem and "interested" in his music. "For example, I'm very interested in what my son is doing. He's more into bands like Radiohead than my music. That doesn't change the feeling I have for my music."
Idol added, "I'm proud of them. My son now has his own band. Who knows? We may even start playing together."
Willem has continued to make occasional public appearances with his famous father too, including at the 50th anniversary celebration of Mr. Chow in Los Angeles in 2018 and Idol's Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony in 2023.
Bonnie Blue Broad
Idol's daughter Bonnie Blue Broad was born in the 1980s. The singer shares Bonnie with ex Linda Mathis.
Bonnie decided to pursue a life outside of entertainment, with Idol telling the New York Daily News in 2012 that she didn't "exhibit any interest in the business" and instead went to college to study writing. Still, Bonnie has publicly supported her famous dad over the years, like attending a 2008 Emmys party and posing for Harper's Bazaar Singapore with Idol.
"My hope for my children is that they are happy, and find love and a purpose in life that is gloriously fulfilling," he said in the magazine spread.
Bonnie shares two children, daughters Poppy Rebel (born in 2020) and MaryJane (born in 2021), with her husband Alex Sobel. While Bonnie's Instagram account is private, her daughters do have their own public Instagram handles.
Bonnie, her husband and her children were all there to support Idol when he received his historic star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Idol posted on his Instagram, "With family at the star ceremony in Hollywood ⭐️ (left to right) @willemwolfe @billyidol Alex Sobel with @maryjane.rebel @bonniebluebroad holding @poppy.rebel @tnorthbroad87 Teresa Broad with Mackenzie & Brant Broad with Mason."
