25-Year-Old Firefighter Injured, 'Multiple Burn Victims' Reported as Fire Continues to Burn Through Palisades

Firefighter battles Eaton Fire on Jan. 7

Several people have reportedly been injured, including at least one firefighter, as wildfires rip across Southern California.

The firefighter, a 25-year-old woman, "sustained a serious head injury around 8:30 p.m. local time on Tuesday, Jan. 7, according to a post on X from Erik Scott, public information officer for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

She first "received immediate treatment at the scene" before being transported to a local hospital "for further evaluation," Scott added.

About a half hour later, around 9 p.m., "multiple burn victims were reported walking toward a nearby restaurant," according to the public information officer.

"Incident operations redirected medical resources to the location to provide evaluation and treatment," he wrote.

As of 7 a.m. local time on Wednesday, Jan. 8, four named wildfires are impacting various parts of Southern California, according to data from CalFire.

The largest blaze is the Palisades Fire, which has burned nearly 3,000 acres of land since it was sparked around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and is 0% contained.

The Eaton Fire is similar in size, having burned nearly 2,300 acres since it was sparked just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Currently, this blaze is also 0% contained.

Two smaller fires, the Hurst Fire and the Woodley Fire, are also burning nearby. 

L.A. City Council member Traci Park announced Wednesday on Today that there have been no fatalities reported in connection to the fires, calling it "an absolute miracle."

"I really want to commend neighbors in the area for their swift response and compliance with local orders," said Park, 49. "As you've reported, this was a fire that grew and moved very, very quickly with the wind conditions as well as all of the dry conditions."
