2-Year-Old Airlifted to Hospital After Twin Sibling Finds a Gun and Accidentally Shoots Them

Police tape (stock image)A 2-year-old child was hospitalized after they were accidentally shot by their twin sibling.
The toddler was shot at a home on Robin Hood Lane in Hampton, Ga., around 12 p.m. local time on Wednesday, March 12, according to Fox 5 Atlanta, WSBTV and Atlanta News First, which cited police.
The 2-year-old, whose identity has not yet been released, was reportedly airlifted to a local hospital after being treated at the scene by Henry County Fire Rescue units, the outlets reported.
Officials told Fox 5 that the child is in stable condition. Per the outlet, investigators believe the victim's twin sibling "gained possession of the firearm" and accidentally discharged the weapon.

WSBTV and Atlanta News First reported that it is unknown if charges have been filed against anyone in connection with the incident.
The incident is still under investigation.

The Henry County Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment on Sunday, March 16.
The toddler's shooting follows a similar incident in December 2024, when a 2-year-old boy in California died after accidentally being shot by his 7-year-old brother inside a truck with a gun found in the vehicle's glove box.
