'Extracted' premieres Feb. 10 on Fox, and PEOPLE has an exclusive first look at the new competition show's trailer

Extracted is pushing survivalists — and their loved ones — to the limit!

On the new Fox competition series, 12 untrained competitors try to survive "extremely grueling conditions, perilous terrain, and the threat of fearsome predators in the unforgiving Canadian wilderness" while their destiny is ultimately decided by their family members, according to an official synopsis.

Their loved ones are "locked down at a secluded headquarters watching them navigate their dangerous surroundings alone via a 24/7 live feed. The fate of each untrained contestant in the wilderness lies in the hands of their family members back in HQ," the description continues.

The family members must choose whether the survivalist can "brave the elements and fight to be the last one standing, or whether the family will push the ominous 'Extract' button and remove their loved one and their whole family from the competition. Extracted begs the question: how far will their loved ones let them go for a chance for their family to win $250,000?"

Along the way, there is no shortage of tension and "strategic alliances" as families hammer out who will send "essential lifelines and resources to their competitors in the wild, to help them endure the harsh conditions they are faced with. Pressure reaches a fever pitch as each family is faced with the critical decision – will they push their loved one to the brink or push the Button?"

In PEOPLE's exclusive first look at the trailer for Extracted — which is from the producers of Alone and Special Forces: World's Toughest Test — contestants perform a series of outdoor challenges including archery, swimming and cutting wood with an axe as their family members watch.

"We have limited resources," one contestant complains. "When I say limited, I mean none."

"Welcome to HQ. Your objective is to send your survivalist supplies. Your loved ones cannot leave on their own. Only you can extract them by pressing the extraction button," a voiceover explains.

"God, this is the hardest thing I've ever done," one family member bemoans as she breaks down in tears and another contestant admits, "I don't know if I can do this."

Another contestant begs his family to "press the button" but his loved ones resist.

While the survivalists struggle in the elements, the family members are facing their own challenging "game" at HQ as alliances begin to form.

"You must choose which survivalists receive crucial supplies — and which do not," a voiceover explains as one contestant is seen saying "thank you" and breaking down in tears when a box arrives for her.

A father says "sorry son" when it is revealed that he received nothing. Another survivalist says, "This is so much harder than I thought it was gonna be."

While one family member wants her mom "back," another one struggles to "figure out who to trust" as someone is heard saying "I will stab you in the back."

As the contestants open up about the sacrifices they made to win, a family member admits, "HQ is just as hard as it is out there."

"We're tired of watching good people do bad things," another loved one adds.
