Bling may not have been on Katie Holmes’ mind when she chose her birthday fit but her eye-catching belt seemed like a must-have in photos. Holmes turned 46 on Wednesday and desired something cozy but equally elegant for her birthday outing in NYC.

The actor stepped out wearing a stylish wool coat, mom jeans, and a pair of comfortable boots to tackle the chill city weather. Her coat appeared slightly longer than waist-length and her blue jeans too casual as she walked on the street, carrying a tote bag in one hand and her phone in the other.

As seen in photos, Katie Holmes topped off her winter essential look with a beanie and a pair of really cool sunglasses. Backgrid USA also spotted the birthday girl walking down the street and shared a short video of the hearty encounter as photographers. In the clip, she waved at them and seemingly entered the Broadway.

E! News further reported that Holmes was backstage for “Our Town” there and celebrated with her friends and daughter Suri Cruise. The 18-year-old, a Carnegie Mellon University student, made a surprise appearance to celebrate her mom’s special day.
