Even though she was one of Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard’s biggest stars, Jordan Emanuel doesn’t have a clue why the show was put “on pause” following Season 2.

Shortly after the Season 2 reunion ran, news broke that the show was being paused, leaving the fate of Season 3 up in the air. Not canceled, but not moving forward. What exactly does that mean?

Sadly, Jordan doesn’t have any inside scoop on the situation. “I’m in the same boat as y’all,” she jokes. “I know nothing. I am Jon Snow,” referring to a character from Game of Thrones.

Martha’s Vineyard has been a summertime retreat for affluent African Americans since the late 1700s. Massachusetts was one of the first states to abolish slavery, making it a vacation destination for freedmen and their families. Bravo’s show not only gave viewers a glimpse into the lives of those who vacation on the Vineyard, but also depicted Black professionals intent on building community, wealth, and positive representation.

“It’s always scary to be the first in something,” Jordan told OK magazine. “My friend used to tell me ‘When you create your own lane, you’re always gonna cause traffic,’ and that’s what I felt happened with Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard.”

“We were creating a lane,” she added. “And that is risky.”

Jordan’s journey with alopecia

In Season 2, Jordan opened up about her journey with alopecia, an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss. “I had no idea it impacted so many people,” the former Playboy playmate shares.

“I had no idea until my inbox started flooding with all these messages saying, ‘Thank you so much,'” Jordan adds. “That’s the part that makes it worth it. But there is that small insecurity of … like, ‘Damn, I showed that to everybody, and I can’t take it back.'”

Jordan revealed her condition in press interviews long before Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head at the 2022 Oscars. The jab at his wife provoked actor Will Smith to deliver the “slap heard around the world” and ultimately brought attention to alopecia. Prior to the incident, Jada had been vocal about the disorder which affects about 7 million people in the U.S.

“It doesn’t dawn on me that it is a Black woman saying that,” Jordan says now. “I wonder if it was someone else if they would receive that same backlash. For me, it was tough to see because she deserves the space to deal with that and to inspire other people because it’s a real thing.”

All episodes of Summer House: Martha’s Vineyard are available on Peacock.
