Heather Gay Teases Second Memoir: 'Lens of Shame Doesn't Go Away'

Heather Gay is all about taking the “bad Mormon” label and turning it on its head. The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City literally wrote a book about what it was like to go from a devout Mormon housewife to the TV version of Real Housewives. Heather is exposing her experience in the church; the good, the bad and the embarrassing.

After her first book was a hit, Heather went back to the keyboard to write a second. Good Time Girl is Heather’s second book, out now, that dives even more into her unpacking religious trauma and adjusting to reality TV fame.

Of course, she talks about everything from her failed marriage to Monica Garcia. Overall, it sounds like a must-read.

Heather spoke to Paper Magazine about her second book and teased a little bit of what fans can expect. Particularly, she talks about what it’s like to reveal things that happened during her marriage and when her kids were younger.

“That lens of shame doesn’t go away. I’m scared that my ex-husband’s gonna sue me for saying he farted in Maui,” Heather admitted. “I mean, that’s the level of fear and authority that I still live under.”

Even though it’s hard to relive tough memories, Heather recognizes that it’s her lived experience. While she can’t change the past, she’s trying to heal from it.

“I still worry about the community and about the rejection, but much less so because I have financial independence now and emotional independence,” Heather added. “And my kids are grown, so I don’t have all of those constraints of fitting in and appeasing the world around me.”

Kudos to Heather for releasing all of the receipts, proof, and timeline of her life journey.
