When Real Housewives of New Jersey fans first met Dina Manzo, she was happily married to Tommy Manzo. The duo tied the knot in 2007, but sadly, they did not have a great union. In 2012, they went their separate ways and finalized their divorce in 2016. In 2015, it was alleged that Tommy hired a mobster to assault Dina and her now husband, Dave Cantin, in exchange for a deeply discounted wedding reception at The Brownstone. Now, Tommy is finally being sentenced for his crimes after his trial.
What was Tommy Manzo accused of?
In 2021, Page Six reported that Tommy had been indicted as an alleged "accomplice" in the 2017 home invasion. The intrusion left Dina and Dave tied up and robbed in their home. Tommy has already been accused of hiring a Mafioso to beat up Dina's new beau and was also indicted on charges including robbery and stalking. The incident occurred after Dina and Dave had traveled to the Garden State to attend Audriana Giudice's first communion. According to prosecutors when the couple returned to their home in Holmdel, two men were waiting inside.
The records read, "an Italian guy with a North Jersey accent who allegedly told them, 'This is what happens when you f*ck with people from Paterson.'" According to the police report, Dina and Dave were tied up with zip ties and assaulted with a baseball bat. The two men also took Dina's engagement ring and $500. At first, prosecutors weren't sure about the involvement Tommy played but later revealed he was "indicted for his role as an accomplice and an ongoing, four-year probe ultimately uncovered Manzo's role in stalking both victims and his motivations for the robbery and assault carried out by Mainello and another still unknown assailant."
Tommy Manzo is finally going to pay the piper
On January 10, NJ.comreported that Tommy had finally been sentenced for his 2017 crime. Tommy had pleaded guilty to stalking Dina and Dave between 2015 and 2019. But as part of a plea deal, the Monmouth County Prosecutor announced that the home invasion robbery charges were dismissed. However, Tommy would receive the "maximum" sentence for two counts of stalking. The 59-year-old Franklin Lakes resident received the maximum 18-month prison sentence for each count from Judge Joseph W. Oxley.
The sentence will run concurrently with the seven-year federal sentence that he is already serving. Tommy's accomplice, James Mainello, also pleaded guilty in May 2023 to conspiracy to commit armed robbery. James was sentenced to seven years "under New Jersey's No Early Release Act, which requires offenders to serve 85% of their sentence before parole eligibility." James' plea deal only worked if Tommy admitted his part in the crimes.
Dina Manzo has not spoken out about the sentencing
Dina has yet to speak out about Tommy's sentence. She did, however, take to her Instagram to comment on the Los Angeles wildfires that have devastated the city. She wrote, "My heart is aching for those who have lost things dear to them — family heirlooms, precious photos, these items hold so much loving energy and priceless memories. Posting them is incredibly painful. The grief is overwhelming."
However, her daughter, Lexi Ioannou, has been vocal about her aunt Caroline Manzo's part in the trial. Fans will recall that Caroline wrote a character letter in support of her brother-in-law. In October, Lexi wrote on her website, "The fallout from my mother's marriage to Tommy is a complex tapestry of emotions and betrayals. I find myself at a perpetual loss to understand how the man who tormented my mother garnered the support of my own family." Lexi described Tommy as "manipulative" in her open letter. Even though Dina is staying quiet, we can assume she is probably comforted knowing that Tommy will be behind bars for the foreseeable future.
